Send it back and save some cash!

The mobile Census Tour stopped in Waynesboro last week to call attention to the national 2010 Census and show support for the effort among local leaders. The U.S. Census Bureau sent the 10-item questionnaire off to more than 120 million mailboxes two weeks ago and is now ramping up efforts to encourage response. The bureau estimates that $1.5 billion could be saved if every household mailed the form back instead of requiring a visit from a door-to-door census worker. Pictured above, elected officials, chamber of commerce board members and community leaders showed up to meet the census tour bus as it passed through town. Local residents who did not receive a form may pick one up at the Burke County Chamber of Commerce on East Sixth Street in Waynesboro and those who need help filling the form out may visit the Burke County Library, 1-4 p.m.; Waynesboro City Hall, 9 a.m.-noon; Sardis City Hall, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Keysville City Hall 1-4 p.m.; or Midville City Hall, 9 a.m.-noon.
