Palmer joins Mary Yelton Realty firm

Mary Dee Palmer, lifelong resident of Burke County, has joined Mary Yelton Realty, owned by Mary Yelton Lively, broker. She signed her first listing on her first day on the job, last Thursday.

Palmer and Lively have had connections for more than 30 years as both of them were tellers at First Federal Savings and Loan in Waynesboro where Regions Bank is located today.

Palmer continued in the banking industry, working her way up the corporate ladder for nearly 40 years at the Bank of Waynesboro, Bankers First, South Trust and Regions Bank.

After her position at Regions Bank was eliminated, Palmer searched for jobs at other banks, credit unions and municipalities with no prospects of offers. Just as she began the real estate license course, a management position at Regions Bank was offered to her, and she accepted.

She said the course material was difficult but a fun challenge. Lively pursued her as she was taking the real estate course. After Palmer passed the test, she called the broker to accept her offer and gave her notice at the bank. “We will make an awesome team,” Palmer said. “Mary has a lot of empathy for her customers, and she will go the extra mile for them.”

In addition to her new real estate career, Palmer remains active in showing quarter horses. She has begun a new venue, “American Competitive Australian Shepherds and works with Therapy Dogs.

She and her husband, Ben, live on a farm in north Burke County. He raises organic vegetables and produces organic beef. They also raise sheep for working with their dogs.
