Joyce Louise Barfield Glisson

Joyce Louise Barfield Glisson, 76, of Wrens, Ga., loving wife of the late Willie B. Glisson, entered into rest Friday afternoon, April 8, 2011 at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley Ga.

Memorial services were held on Monday, April 11, at 3 p.m. in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frankie May officiating.

The family received friends in the chapel after the service.

Born to the late Virgie Lee Massey and the late Charlie B. Barfield, Joyce grew up in Wilcox County. After receiving her nursing degree, she moved to Burke County in 1957 and worked in various local hospitals and nursing homes for more than 30 years. She had a passion for helping and caring for others. Joyce could be found watching wrestling or playing video games. Her greatest love was for her family, and especially found much pleasure in her grandchildren and great grandkids.

Joyce was also preceded in death by her sister, Josie May Nations of Atlanta, Ga.

Her survivors include her daughter, Aletha G. Wilson (Emory); her brother, James F. Barfield (Tillie) of Seville Ga.; her sister, Shirley Wilkes (Douglas) of Vienna Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Bazemore, Robert Parker III, Leila Parker (Gordon), Jessica Ledbetter (Richard), Rosa Vaughn, Michelle Norfolk, John Norfolk, Ben Wilson (Megan), Matt Wilson (Barbara) and Adam Wilson; 15 great grandchildren; and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd, Augusta GA 30904.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Trinity Hospice and Glendale Nursing Home for their loving, professional care.
