Jena Palmer

Jena Palmer has been named to the fall 2010 Dean’s list of the College of Liberal Arts at Mercer University in Macon Georgia. To achieve deans’s list status, a student must have a semester average or cumulative grade point average of 3.5.

Jena is a 2007 honor graduate of Edmund Burke Academy and will graduate in May from Mercer University. Jena is the daughter of Jeff and Nancy Palmer of Waynesboro. SFC Prince Dykes

SFC Prince Dykes recently graduated from the University of Phoenix in Los Angeles, Calif., with a Bachelor of Science in management and an Associate of Art in general studies. He is a 2003 graduate of Burke County High School and Augusta Technical College. Prince is the son of retired SSG John and Princess Dykes Jr. of Waynesboro and the grandson of Janie and the late Prince Lane of Quitman and Sarah Mae and the late John Dykes Sr. of Cordele.

He and his wife, Yolanda, reside in San Diego, Calif.., and have a 1- month- old son, Wesley.

Prince currently serves on active duty in the United States Navy as a Logistics Specialist First Class (submarine/diver) and is attending school in Pensacola, Fla. He plans to pursue a career in cryptology and is also pursuing a Masters of Business Administration.

He is a member of Waynesboro Deliverance Church. Ana Collins Ana Collins

Ana Collins of Burke County was named to the president’s list for the winter quarter at Southeastern Technical College. She maintained a 3.75 GPA or higher for the quarter. Derrick A. Smith

Army Pvt. Derrick A. Smith has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Annette Smith of Midville.

Smith graduated in 2007 from Swainsboro High School. Casey Corley

Casey Corley of Waynesboro was recently recognized at Georgia Southern University’s Honors Day ceremony. She was the recipient of the Susan Bacon MacLachlan Memorial Scholarship. Terrance Griffin

E3 Airman Terrance Griffin, 19, of Waynesboro graduated from basic training April 8, in Chicago, Ill. He is currently attending A-school in Pensacola, Fla., where he will be for the next four weeks. Following training, he will be stationed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt in Norfolk, Va. as a VAW 124 squadron mechanic.

He is the son of Mickey and Claretha Griffin and the grandson of the late Willie and Fannie Griffin and Sammie Lee Hughes and the late Joes Hughes, all of Waynesboro.

Griffin graduate from Burke County High School in 2010.
