Families can beat the heat with more than books at the library this summer.

The Burke County Library will kick off its summer reading program this Friday with the first in a series of special presentations.

Magician Chad Crews will be at the main branch in Waynesboro at 10:30 a.m. on Friday for the event. He will also offer shows later that day at the Midville and Sardis branches at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Other special activities and presentations are scheduled at all three branches throughout the summer as well as part of this year’s summer reading program, which is themed “One World, Many Stories.”

Children who sign up for the summer reading program will have a chance to log the books they complete over the next couple of months for rewards. Those who read 30 books or 15 hours, depending on age, will receive prizes and coupons while supplies last.

For more information on the summer reading program, call the library at 706-554-3277.
