Youngsters can brush up on their baseball skills at a local camp this summer.

The Billy Marchman Extra Innings Summer Baseball Camp is scheduled for July 11-14. Registration has opened and will run until the deadline at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 6. The camp is co- sponsored by the Burke County Recreation Department.

Players will be divided into two groups, with those ages 7-9 practicing 8:30-10 a.m. each morning and those ages 10-12 playing from 10:30 a.m.-noon each day.

Each day campers will focus on a different aspect of the game, including defensive skills (fielding, throwing, cut- offs and double plays), offense (hitting and bunting) as well as base running, sliding, pitching and catching.

Marchman said the camp is designed to promote baseball among local youth and will focus on fundamentals as well as sportsmanship.

The $50 registration fee includes a camp T-shirt.
