Rape Crisis Volunteers

Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Services will conduct a volunteer advocate training March 8-12, at University Hospital. Advocates are needed in Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie, Jefferson, Burke and surrounding counties. Advocates must be able to respond to their area hospitals within 30 minutes, have a dependable phone and transportation. Please call 706-774-2746 or email volunteer@uh.org for more information.

GED testing

GED testing will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 23. See Tameka Gordon at the alternative school for more information and to register.

Music & the Media

Waynesboro Police Department and Concerned Citizens of the Community will present “The Truth Behind the Music and the Media,” 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Burke County Library. Admission is free.

Blood Drive

Shepeard Community Blood Center’s Bloodmobile will be in Waynesboro 1-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Wardlow Building, located at the corner of Seventh Street and Academy Avenue. All February donors will be entered for a chance to win tickets to the Elton John concert on Tuesday, March 6. For details, visit www.shepeardblood.org. Please bring your donor card or picture ID.

Flower Show

Millen Garden Council will sponsor a Flower Show entitled “Southern Charm,” 2-5 p.m., March 3, at the home of Jerry and Patricia McMillan, 360 College Avenue in Millen. Admission is $2 donation. For additional information, call (478) 982-2032 or (478) 982-4527.

Fashion Extravaganza

Blakeney Elementary School’s PTA will host a fashion extravaganza, 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at Burke County High School. The theme will be “Rip the Runway.” Tickets will be sold at various schools; admission is $5. This fashion show will be a county-wide endeavor including BES, SGA, BCMS, BCHS, WPS and EBA. If you have knowledge of any performers, singers, dancers, etc. Contact Rashann Parker or Felicia Lovett at BES at 706-554-2265. Vendors will also be set up in the commons area during the fashion show selling candles, perfumes, purses, accessories/jewelry, makeup etc. If you would like to secure a booth or know someone who does, the cost is $50. All proceeds will benefit Blakeney Elementary School PTA.
