BCHS holds induction ceremony for Kitty Hawk Air Society

Burke County High School held its annual Kitty Hawk Air Society Induction Ceremony January 26. Kitty Hawk Air Society is the academic honor society within Air Force JROTC. The objectives are to promote higher academic standards, be of service to the school and community, promote self-confidence and initiative, develop leadership ability, encourage academic excellence for all, and further enhance the post high school years. Members must maintain a grade of 90 or above in Air Force JROTC, an overall GPA in all subjects of 85 or higher and never receive a grade below 73 on their high school transcript. This year, JROTC has 49 members in this elite group. New inductees receiving certificates and pins were, from left, front row: Chaz Williams, Aaron Williams, Stephen Walker, Charecia Walker, Caleb Tinsley, Jamaree Smith, Nathan Stanley, Cortney Scott, Darrell Kentle, Kalee Jones, Arenetta Gordon and Vernice Singleton. Returning members that took home certificates for their outstanding success during high school were, from left, back row: Kala K. Walker, Robert L. Webster, Regina M. Walden, Ashea’ Whitfield, Ashely Taylor, Megan A. Moore, Taylor Kicklighter, Jonathan Hughes, Akeely Smith, Calia Gibson, Shaw’Nae Watson, Monica Boyd and Cordarrel Brown. New inductees not pictured were Ebony Freeman, Drequan Gaines, Jeremy Gordon, Dylan Hanley, Brandon Harold, Amber Hills, Amber Johnson, Lakeisha Kelly, Leeneisha Mathis, Ebony Peterson, Kadeshia Ready, Cameron Washington, Caleb Waters and Malcom Whitfield. Returning cadet’s not pictured were, Thomas Dykes, Steven Gaiser, Therman Holmes, Ian Phillips, Noah Richards, Jalyn Snelling, Christopher Washington, Toni Washington, Raven Williams, and Alexia Frank. This was the second largest number of inductees into the program since the Burke County charter was activated in June 1997.
