Jazzing it up

Wycliffe Gordon, Signal Corps Band perform in Burke

The U.S. Army Signal Corps Band and Wycliffe Gordon raised the tempo in the Burke County High School auditorium last Thursday. The Signal Corps and Gordon, a native of Waynesboro and celebrated trombonist, wowed the audience with selections ranging from Gordon’s tender, hauntingly beautiful rendition of Danny Boy to the Signal Swing’s jazzy upbeat tune, New York, New York. The Decibels and Gordon came together to present the memorable Basin Street Blues. The following morning, Gordon conducted a Master Class for BCHS band students entitled “Sing It Again” where he emphasized the discipline of “practice” that would impact their musicianship as well as any endeavor in life.
