Statesboro High jumped to a 14-0 lead by halftime and held Burke County scoreless until the final three minutes of the game when senior quarterback Donquell Green escaped the Blue Devil defense to scamper 49 yards for a touchdown. Untorrey Thomas’ kick was good for the PAT.

Despite Burke County’s in- ability to put more points on the board, they still recorded more offensive yards than Statesboro and improved in the penalty department.

The Bears had 411 yards total offense, while Statesboro totaled 352.

Burke County saw three flags thrown against them for a total of 13 yards.

Still, Statesboro High’s defense kept them from gaining any real traction toward the end zone, halting their rushing game in a major way.

Green relied on his receivers, mainly Kristopher Skinner, Thomas and Jay’Montrez Henderson. Still, the Blue Devils managed to intercept four of his passes.

Several Bears put in a big effort on defense, including Henderson with 6.5 tackles, Jermaine Baxley with 6 tackles and Chris McBride with 5 tackles. Marcus Smith, Justin Golphin and Byrant Wilson each tallied 4.5 tackles.
