From the Blotter

Lunch punch

Nachos and narcotics don’t mix. Plant Vogtle security officers for Units 3 and 4 called deputies after a small Ziploc bag of white powder was found in the lunchroom. According to the report, the substance tested positive for cocaine. No suspects were identified.

Fire and water

The Burke County landfill had a hard week. Last Wednesday, a personnel building completely burned down. Although the cause of the fire was undetermined, EMA personnel noted that a space heater had been situated near a propane tank. Three days after the fire, officers were called back again. This time, a thief stole three vehicle batteries and cut the radiators out of two water trucks. The damage was estimated at $8,000.

Ping

A Waynesboro home got pinged by a barrage of golf balls. According to a report filed at the sheriff’s office, a man living near the country club was awakened at 1:45 a.m., by five teenagers who were assaulting his house with balls. When the man intervened, the kids reportedly hurled a few choice words his way then hightailed it to a wooded area on the golf course. Deputies searched the woods but could not find the vandals.
