Event planned for juniors, seniors

From Staff Reports

While college enrollment numbers continue to increase among America’s youth, some local leaders worry that the trend is not as strong among rural youth.

Area churches are working together to help local high school juniors and seniors explore their options after graduation. An event entitled Preparing for Life After High School will be held this Saturday, from 10-11 a.m. at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Wrens. The event will feature Dr. Anthony Robinson, a business professor at Georgia Regents University. Dr. Robinson is expected to cover a number of choices that are available to students.

Rev. Al Robinson, pastor of Smith Grove, said the work is just beginning in rural areas to realize substantial increases in college enrollment, especially among minorities. He said he believes the community must pull together to address the growing problem.

He and three other local pastors from Mays Grove, Ways Grove and New Springfield Baptist churches pulled together to sponsor the event.

They encourage juniors and seniors from Burke and Jefferson counties along with their families to attend the event and learn more about the opportunities available.
