EBA shuts out Memorial Day

By Kim Bailey

The Edmund Burke Academy Spartans picked up a big region win on the diamond last week when they defeated Memorial Day School.

In the 16-0 win, the Spartans “played better offensively, swung the bat better and scored when runners were on base,” according to Coach Aaron Phillips.

Tyson Post was the leading hitter for EBA, going 1 for 2. Other leading batters were Bill Knight, Adam Johnson, Nathan Thompson and Bo Goodin.

Johnson started on the mound for the Spartans and Goodin came in for the close. Johnson pitched three and one-third innings, allowing only 1 hit and tallying 7 strikeouts. Goodin finished out the game with 3 strikeouts and no hits.

“Our pitchers did a great job. They threw a lot of strikes and had command of the mound,” said Coach Phillips. “This was the big region win we needed to get back on track.”

The game against Brentwood that was scheduled for last Tuesday was cancelled due to the weather. Yesterday (Tuesday) the Spartans faced First Presbyterian Christian Academy, but results were not available at press time.
