Regency Hospice is seeking volunteers in the Waynesboro/ Burke County area. Volunteer opportunities are open to adults 18 and over. Free training, flexible scheduling and a variety of service areas are available. Contact the volunteer coordinator Ashley Blevins at 706-868- 4422 for more information.

Unique gifts are available at Burke Medical Center for last minute Christmas shopping. A large selection of gifts for men, women and children may be purchased, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., in the front lobby. Gift wrapping is available at no charge. 706-554- 4435 for more information. The sale is sponsored by BMC volunteers and all proceeds fund equipment and improvements for the hospital.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 10

Free Diabetic Teaching will be offered in the Burke Medical

Center classroom, 6-8 p.m. The course is designed to help diabetics learn how to better control their diabetes through healthy eating. Participants should eat before they come and are encouraged to bring along their partners or anyone who helps with food preparation. Space is limited and preregistration is encouraged. SATURDAY, DEC. 13

The Waynesboro Lions Club will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, noon - 8 p.m., at the Wal-Mart in Waynesboro.

SUNDAY, DEC. 14

Waynesboro Toastmasters will hold its final meeting of the year, 5 p.m. at 841 Jones Avenue. The program will include a Speech-a-thon and open house. Visitors are welcome.

TUESDAY, DEC. 16

The Waynesboro Lions Club will meet, 5:30 p.m., at The Lakeview Restaurant. Guest speaker is Second Vice District Governor Frank Lane. All member and those interested are encouraged to attend.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 17

A Young Adult Christmas Party will be held at the Burke County Library, 1:30-4 p.m. The gathering is for grades 6- 12 and will include Wii games and cookie decorating.

FRIDAY, DEC. 19

A Children’s Christmas Party will be held at the Burke County Library, 2-4 p.m. The gathering is for youth, preschool through 5th grade, and includes cookie decorating, Christmas games, arts & crafts and a limited number of toys to find. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera to take special photographs of their children.
