Driver targeted by Highway 23 shooter

By Elizabeth Billips

Deputies are looking for a gunman who drives a green truck.

They were summoned for help just before 1 a.m. Sunday when the suspect apparently shot at a Tahoe carrying a Burke County family.

The family member behind the wheel told officers that he had slowed for a stop sign on his route home when he saw headlights coming toward him at a high rate of speed from Boll Weevil Road.

The aggressor pulled behind the Tahoe in a green Ford F150 with a silver stripe down the bottom. According to the report, he tailgated the family so closely he almost hit the SUV several times.

Family members said he sped past them and tried to block the roadway. As they swerved to get around, the offender reportedly leaned out of the window and fired a pistol at the Tahoe.

Deputies confirmed that a rear tire appeared to have been hit but no one was injured.

The offender is described as a white man with short hair, a mustache and goatee.

Anyone with information is asked to call 706-554-2133.
