Robber steals shoes in home invasion

By Elizabeth Billips

A gunman broke into a Waynesboro home and stole a teenager’s shoes.

The 15- year- old victim called deputies just before 11:30 a.m. last Tuesday after he was awakened by a loud noise in his Neely Circle home.

When he opened his bedroom door, he was confronted by an unidentified gunman who ordered him to the floor.

According the Sgt. Dedric Smith, chief investigator for the Burke County Sheriff ’s Office, the teen was struck in the head with the gun.

The boy told officers the intruder demanded money, which he didn’t have, and eventually fled with numerous boxes of his shoes.

Deputies called to the scene found the side door had been forced open and a single shoe had been dropped in the backyard.

The teen, who was treated for a laceration to his head, later reported that the gunman had stolen 21 pairs of shoes, in addition to a laptop, jewelry and other items.
