FROM THE BLOTTER

YOU’VE GOT MAIL

A care package intended for a Burke County inmate was intercepted by jailers on Monday. According to the report, a large envelope addressed to “Shaquan Hines” was left in the mailbox in front of the jail. Hines is being held for a 2014 shooting that left a Waynesboro man with a gunshot wound in his chest. The parcel contained a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, loose tobacco, rolling papers and three cell phone batteries. The case remains under investigation.

RICH KID?

A Burke County woman is short 20-grand. According to a report filed at the sheriff’s office, an unknown burglar located the keys to her hidden safe and took $20,000 of the $30,000 cash she had stashed there for safekeeping. The money, she said, was from a life insurance policy from a deceased family member. Deputies were told that “family rumors” suggested a 15-year-old relative was the likely culprit.

RUNAWAY

A runaway truck did some damage outside a Long Road residence in Girard. According to the report, the truck “jumped” out of gear, rolled down a small slope in the yard and crashed into the side of a parked GMC Sierra. No one was hurt, but the GMC took a moderate lick on the passenger side door.
