Medical Associates Plus held the grand opening of its newest location last Wednesday, December 2, but began seeing patients the previous Monday.

J.R. Richards, Chief Executive Officer of MAP. said this week that, "Dr. Byne joins MAP near the end of another year of growth and success." He said that his company had received a federal grant of $650,000 annually to provide primary healthcare services for the Keysville area. "The grant allows MAP to serve patients that have limited access to a doctor's office."

Dr. Byne, with over thirty five years' experience as a family physician, follows his grandfather, J. Miller Byne, Sr. and his uncle J. Miller Byne, Jr. in providing healthcare to Burke Countians. "It is with humility that I am back in the county I originated from," he said at the opening.

The clinic is housed in a building formerly occupied by the Medical College of Georgia's Keysville health center. It has been closed for several years. Keysville Mayor Linda Wilkes said the new clinic can be a "starting point" for the community.

Currently there is a convenience store, post office and a nursing home in Keysville. "People get their healthcare in Augusta, Waynesboro or Wrens, but many can't or don't want to drive. This will give everyone the care they need."

MAP also operates clinics in Wrens and south Augusta.
