WEDNESDAY, JAN. 10

Free diabetic teaching will be offered in the Burke Medical Center classroom, 6-8 p.m. The course is designed to help diabetics learn how to better control their diabetes through healthy eating. Participants should eat before they come and are encouraged to bring along their partners or anyone who helps with food preparation. Please enter through Emergency Room waiting area. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged. Call 706.554.4435.

FRIDAY, JAN. 12

A program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held at noon at Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial College at Paine College with Dr. Cleveland Sellers Jr. serving as keynote speaker. The program is sponsored by Paine College, Augusta Technical College and Augusta University.

SUNDAY, JAN. 14

Waynesboro Toastmasters will meet at 5 PM at 841 Jones Avenue. Start the year with a new resolution to develop better Communication and Leadership skills which can enhance your career. Learn how to lead effectively, listen carefully, and communicate with confidence. Visitors welcome. See the website at toastmasters.org for various clubs’ meeting times and places.

MONDAY, JAN. 15

The Burke County Sapphirettes will hold Freedom School 2018 at 10 a.m. at 518 College St. in Waynesboro with the theme: Voting, Then & Now. Children aged 5-17 and adults are invited. The event is free, and there will be fun activities and a snack.
