Softball tourney to benefit Grubisa family

DIANA ROYAL

The crusade to help build a home for Christopher Grubisa continues.

Next Saturday, May 26, the Burke County Sheriff's Office is hosting a softball tournament in hopes of raising more funds to custom build a house for Christopher and his family. The young man battled bacterial meningitis last October, losing all four limbs in the process, but continues therapy so he can come home to his wife and three children. The sheriff's office, family, friends and businesses across the CSRA want to give him a house to come home to, equipped for making life easier for the entire family. Donations of all sizes have come in over the months, and contractors have agreed to give in-kind contributions when it comes time to build. The softball tourney is another way for the BCSO to reach its $200,000 goal.

The all-male tournament will be held at Jonathan Broxton Park and will be conducted according to ASA rules. Participants must be 16 years of age or older, and registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the tournament following at 9. The cost is $250 per team, and the winners will be rewarded with a trophy and t-shirts. Other prizes and special drawings will be held throughout the day. Concessions will also be open.

For more information or to sign up, contact Lt. Calvin Davis at the BCSO at 706.554.2133 or c.davis@burkecounty-ga.gov.

So far, eight teams have registered to compete. The deadline for payment is May 23.
