Tour of Homes

The Burke County Woman’s Club will hold the Christmas Tour of Homes from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in advance at the Burke County Museum, Yvonne’s and Pecan Row or from any club member.

The new home of Rob and Lynn is a charming, low country style cottage they call “Gnat’s Knoll.” The wide entry hall and open floor plan is decorated both beautifully and comfortably. Hardwood floors and black doors are also eye catching. Several treasured family antiques, including a Louis XVI style marble top Demilune chest and four generations of family artwork, all compliment this lovely home. Rob and Lynn love their bright kitchen with all white glass-fronted cabinets and contrasting dark island. They also especially enjoy their backyard cabana. Rob laid the rock pathway to this entertainment feature. Another family favorite is the screened porch.

They especially enjoy the recently renovated kitchen and the convenience of both the laundry room and powder room, which are near the kitchen. Special collectible items include a German ceremonial pipe, which is approximately 200 years old, and a travel trunk that Frank’s great grandmother, Gesina Lackman, used on the Graf Zeppelin. An early 1900s German spice set and a Baptism certificate dated 1869 and written in German are other interesting memorabilia. The beautiful 100-year-old mantle and photos throughout the house are from earlier times in Augusta.
