Traffic stop leads to drug bust

ROY F. CHALKER JR.

Hayden Parker Hayden Parker Just like on so many other occasions, a simple traffic enforcement stop led to much bigger things last Saturday, Jan.5.

At 7:50 p.m. that day, Burke County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Mc- Cants pulled over 1 2013 Honda Civic for an expired tag. The car was occupied by two North Augusta, S.C. men; Hayden Parker and Benjamin Wilson, both age 20.

McCants training caused hin to suspect the two might be hiding something so he sought the assistance of Jenkins County Deputy Matthew Cowdrey and his K9 Ozzy.

His suspicions turned out to be correct when almost 10 pounds of marijuana was found in the trunk of the car, along with $991 in cash.

Wilson and Parker were both taken into custody and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Wilson was also charged for the expired tag.
