Deadline approaching for Chamber awards nominations

The deadline to nominate an individual or business for Chamber awards is quickly approaching. The special awards will recognize both the Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year, and will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on Jan. 31. The deadline to get in those nominations is this Friday, Jan. 11, at noon. Chamber executive director Ashley Roberts says that a committee of impartial members will meet after the deadline to discuss the nominations and complete the selection process for the recipient of each award.

To nominate a deserving citizen or local business, contact the Chamber office at 706.554.5451, email burkechamber@selectburke.com or stop by the office at 241 East 6th St. in Waynesboro.

The Citizen of the Year recipient in 2018 was Gail Rockwell, who was recognized for her dedication to feeding the hungry through the Heaping Hands program. Business of the Year nods went to Purification Cellutions (now Ingevity) for being a constant supporter of the Burke County community, not just through the workforce but through various acts of volunteerism and financial backing.
