Burke County Genealogical Society meets 6 p.m. at the Burke County Library. The Rev. J.J. Smith will speak about Burial Societies. The public is invited.


Free diabetic teaching will be offered in the Burke Medical Center classroom, 6-8 p.m. The course is designed to help diabetics learn how to better control their diabetes through healthy eating. Participants should eat before they come and are encouraged to bring along their partners or anyone who helps with food preparation. Please enter through Emergency Room waiting area. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged. Call 706.554.4435.


Monday, Feb. 11, from 3:30- 5 p.m. – A children’s Valentine movie will be played. Popcorn and drinks will be served.

Thursday, Feb. 14, from 3:30- 5 p.m. – There will be a Valentine Bingo party with stories, cupcakes, Bingo and crafts.

Thursday, Feb. 14, from 5-6 p.m. – The Young Adult Cupcake War will be held. Participants will compete against each other to create cupcakes that fit into the Valentine theme. Registration is required.

All events will take place in the auditorium at the Burke County Library. Programs may not be suitable for those with food allergies.


The 93rd African American History Month Observance will meet 5 p.m. at Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church on West Seventh St. Individuals will receive awards for their contributions and achievements in arts, athletics, community service and public service. The public is invited.
